How to Rebuild Credit After Bankruptcy

If you intend to use credit again after you have filed for bankruptcy, there are a few ways you can go about getting back in the game. The first is to apply for a credit card with a low limit which requires full repayment every month. If you have a difficult time getting approved for a new card due to a low credit score from the bankruptcy, you can look into either getting a co-signer or applying for a secured credit card. This is one in which you deposit money into an account ahead of time and this will be the basis for your established credit line.

While you are in the process of rebuilding your credit, you should take advantage of every consumer’s right to see their credit report free once a year. This offer is available from Trans Union, Equifax and Experian, which are the three major agencies that report consumer credit statistics. If you stagger your requests, you can receive a free report every four months. When you receive the report, you should check for inaccuracies and report them at once. Also, if you have established new accounts since your bankruptcy filing, make sure that your positive payment history is being reported.
